PlastiCert is a recipient of the coveted 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility

Lewiston, MN May 21, 2013 – PlastiCert, a 32 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, is honored to be awarded a 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility at the Winona Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Business Appreciation Awards Banquet.

Given by Families and Work Institute and the Society for Human Resource Management, the Sloan award recognizes employers across the country. PlastiCert has distinguished itself as a leading employer of choice by demonstrating success in using flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy to achieve business goals and benefit employees by helping them meet their responsibilities on and off the job.

The selection process is rigorous, involving an evaluation of employers’ programs and practices, and a confidential employee survey. As a recipient, PlastiCert ranks in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of its programs, policies and culture for creating an effective and flexible workplace.

“PlastiCert is honored to have been selected. The criteria is quite stringent and selection field is very exclusive”, remarked Craig Porter, President and Owner of PlastiCert. “Management answers questions to get their organization through the first level of screening and become a finalist. The most telling aspect is that our co-workers are provided surveys that they answer anonymously for the selection committee to review. Combine that with being a small manufacturer and a lean workforce and we are truly proud of what we have put together at PlastiCert.”

An initiative of Families and Work Institute (FWI) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility are part of When Work Works, a national project to educate the business community on the value of workplace effectiveness and flexibility.

“These employers are leaders in leveraging flexibility strategies to attract and keep the best talent. They experience first-hand the benefits that an effective and flexible workplace has on their employees, organizational culture and bottom line,” says Kelly Sakai-O’Neill, senior manager of applied research at Families and Work Institute.

Award winners will be featured in the next edition of the Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work. Information about innovative workplace practices also will be showcased at a national work-life conference and be included in business education programming by FWI and SHRM.
