Lewiston, MN March 27, 2015 – PlastiCert, a 34 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, had a booth at the Lewiston-Altura High School Career Fair to illuminate the many opportunities manufacturing has to offer today’s youth.
Craig W. Porter, PlastiCert’s President and Owner volunteered to man the booth which consisted of numerous examples of injection molded components, some examples of post molding decorating and assembly, small molds and an assortment of technical trade magazines. There was a TV/DVD player showing the Society of Manufacturing Engineering show on “Principals of Injection Molding” to help draw them in. Along with a number of handouts with information on the types of technical AND non-technical careers manufacturing offers, there was a match the manufacturing position and salary quiz where the kids could win a pair of Skullcandy Audio Headphones.
“The students were curious and wanted to know more about what positions required what level of education”, commented Porter. “I told them that in Manufacturing I have seen it all. Some of my best managers and mentors had little to no college; others had bachelors, doctorates and PhD’s. I did pass on that of all the S&P 500 companies, people with engineering degrees run approximately 1/3 of them. That being said, many students were surprised about the number of non-technical jobs we have to offer in Finance, Human Resources, Production Planning, Inventory, Shipping/Receiving, etc.” Afterward Lori Anderson, High School Counselor passed on, “Thanks again for spending your half day with us and for do[sic] the quiz with the kids. I have heard great things from the students.”
