Everyone loves a parade!
Another Lewiston Heartland Days has passed and PlastiCert did it up bigger than usual. This year we celebrated our doing business in Lewiston for 20 years.
PlastiCert was founded way back in 1981, but that was in Pennsylvania. Our reach back then was regional, mostly upper East Coast but did stretch down into the Carolinas and Northern Florida.
In 2002 PlastiCert expanded to Lewiston Minnesota, acquiring the assets of a molding firm that did not survive start-up. PlastiCert MN was itself a start-up, not inheriting any customers from Pennsylvania. The first few years were successful at winning new customers, but the success was in the top line revenues, not the bottom-line profits. With additional headwinds added by issues back in Pennsylvania, PlastiCert struggled as we ran straight into the Great Recession in 2008. That reduction saw the closing of the original facility back in PA in July 2009. We did get 90% of the customers in PA to mold their molds here to MN. We exited that recession with a newfound energy and things took off quite quickly.
Since then, PlastiCert has experienced momentous change, spending over $2 million dollars replacing all our major equipment and adding onto our facilities.
While we have always been a Diamond (highest) Level financial supporter of our local celebration in June, we felt our 20-year recognition called for joining in on the Heartland Days festivities.
After all, it was the famous Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka that said, “If you’re not in the parade, you watch the parade. That’s life.” So, we joined the parade and sponsored a few groups to join in as well.
