PlastiCert LogoLewiston, MN July 18, 2018 – PlastiCert, a 37 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, recently received its Certification of Registration to ISO 9001:2015.

Having been audited by its 3rd party registrar, PlastiCert has been certified to the most recent ISO Quality Standard, ISO 9001:2015. The certification is good through 2nd quarter 2022. “This process was started way back in 2004 when PlastiCert first registered for and received our initial ISO 9000 certification”, remarked Craig Porter, President and Owner of PlastiCert. “Our then Quality Manager Ben Ninas, who’s since risen to Director of Operations, was a natural for understanding the requirements and implementing a system that has worked well. He even went out and helped refine our former Pennsylvania facility.”

ISO 9000 is a worldwide quality management standard that presents guidelines intended to increase business efficiency and customer satisfaction. The goal of ISO 9000 is to embed a quality management system within an organization, increasing productivity, reducing unnecessary costs, and ensuring quality of processes and products. One important aspect of ISO 9000 is its process-oriented approach. Instead of looking at a company’s departments and individual processes, ISO 9000 requires that a company look at “the big picture.” PlastiCert is certified to the 9001 standard which includes the design engineering function in its systems and auditing requirements.

The most recent ISO 9001 release, 2015, went to a new level, constructed around seven quality management principles:

   Customer focus;

   Leadership;

   Engagement of people;

   Process approach;

   Improvement;

   Evidence-based decision making;

   Relationship management

While ISO 9001:2008 had 8 clauses or areas to address, ISO 9001:2015 has 10. The first 3 clauses in ISO 9001:2015 are largely the same as those in ISO 9001:2008, but there are major alterations between ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2015 after that point. The final seven clauses follow the traditional PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act).

Once implemented within an organization, many companies choose to become certified with ISO 9000 through a 3rd party audit. In this case, an independent certification body comes into an organization and evaluates it in terms of the ISO 9000 guidelines. If an organization meets the requirements of the standard, it becomes certified in ISO 9000 and carries a seal of quality recognized throughout the world.

“Capabilities like being ISO certified all these years, our Enterprise Resource Planning Software or even our UL Registration are just some of the things that help set us apart from our competition” added Porter.
