PlastiCert donates to local playground restoration
Lewiston, MN October 4, 2018 – PlastiCert, a 37 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, reports it has made a matching donation to the city of Lewiston to help restore one of its playgrounds. PlastiCert recently donated over $11,000 to their city when learning of a playground being closed after failing a safety inspection.
PlastiCert President and Owner Craig Porter was attending the August Lewiston chamber of commerce meeting when he heard a report from City Councilman Larry Rupprecht. Councilman Rupprecht’s update of city activities included the recent unexpected closing of the Circle Pines playground due to safety concerns. A safety barrier had to be placed around the suspected equipment and grounds. The city had obtained a quotation to upgrade the questioned equipment and fall protection area in the amount of $58,461.62, but these were expenditures that had not been budgeted by the city. Rupprecht added that an anonymous donor had offered up $36,000 for new equipment if the city could raise the remaining $22,000 for the fall protection ground material. He reported a fund drive was currently underway. Porter announced to the crowd in attendance that PlastiCert would match any donations made, up to half of the needed $22,000.
At a ceremony held during the September 26th Lewiston City Council meeting, a ceremonial check was presented to the city. Said Porter, “at the chamber meeting, it was the first I had heard of the situation with the playground. My first thought was of neighborhood kids staring through the snow fence at their playground and I just reacted with our offer.” Porter went on to explain, “When I bought the company and rewrote our mission statement, I included that PlastiCert recognizes a commitment to the community. It is what I was taught years ago by mentors at EMD Associates and has always stuck with me. A business is not an island, we have a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between the company, our coworkers and the community around us. This represents the largest cash donation we have ever made, but we give all the time. Not just money for this, the homecoming sports dinner, prom, and high mileage vehicles, but also time; providing our people flexibility to coach baseball and basketball, work at civic events, speaking to students and giving tours of our facility to students researching career paths.”
