For decades, injection molders have been courting OEMs that want to convert their metal parts into thermoplastic and composite parts.

Here at PlastiCert, one of our favorite conversion stories is from wood to thermoplastic. Northbar Tackle was started in the early 90’s in a basement workshop, making wood carved salt water fishing lures.  The Bottle Darter became an immediate hit and the demand exceeded the capacity of his woodworking shop. They turned to PlastiCert to create a thermoplastic version of his lure.  A part design and material were selected after some collaboration between the designer and PlastiCert on features, moldability, water action, use environment and durability. Upon completion of the fishing lure mold and processing initial samples we got:

The samples were sent out to Northbar for assembly, painting and trial. The result:

They approved production and the hard plastic fishing lure took off. Since then we have helped Northbar expand with 3 additional custom fishing lure molds that are catching everything from Bluefin tuna:

To freshwater Northern Pike (one of PlastiCert’s engineers, Zach took a Bottledarter on the water here in MN):

Thinking about an alternate material and need a trusted partner to make your fishing lure molds and molded lures?  Contact PlastiCert to start a discussion. We are not just injection molding experts, we are thermoplastic materials experts as well. Rather than just “fishing” for an idea, we can help you make that conversion a success you can be proud of!
