Control over your major asset

For your composite component, you are going to need a mold. Evey molder will work with you to get a mold designed and built, that they will then use to make you part(s).

Most will charge you up front, some will amortize it over time, others will wrap it into the price of the parts you buy. If you are smart, you will make sure in the end it is your asset residing at your supplier.

Yet, if all of this occurs offshore, with no real ties or presence in that locale, you are risking your assets.

With the 2025 rush to bring manufacturing back to domestic suppliers, we are seeing numerous inquiries request quotes for molds on existing parts, because the existing mold is “unattainable”.  

Unless you have the presence in the region you are considering using, do not! Another part of the shoring equation that is less tangible.  Rights are one thing, enforcing your rights, economically, is another matter.
