Celebrating our Coworkers
Maybe you are reading this before Labor Day weekend, or perhaps you have started your long weekend early which is great! Because it is Labor Day. Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday of September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. It began as a result of the trade union and labor movements growing, trade unionists proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. “Labor Day” was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, which organized the first parade in New York City. Now we all celebrate Labor Day.
Especially here at PlastiCert, although we celebrate our coworkers almost every chance we get. Our people are hard working and dedicated to our mission of servicing our customers with plastic injection molding expertise. Our mission statement goes on to say we will provide that service in an environment that fosters personal growth, professional challenge, and a responsibility to the community around us.
Which is also why we celebrate our people. We get glowing reviews from our customers in our period feedback requests. Some of them appear on our website. The reason does not end there though. Our people accept responsibility, they take on challenges, and they work to make our community a better place for us all. Our coworkers volunteer at their churches, coach and officiate youth and high school sports, participate in business and civic groups. They even run for office.
So, we celebrate all year round! We grill lunch every two weeks throughout the summer. One of those grill outs is a pork chop dinner with all the fixings! We have a summer outing together at a venue offering food, drink, and music. Family members are invited as there are games and activities for kids of all ages. We have a winter holiday celebration. An evening at a supper club with spouses and significant others where we can sit and spend time together talking about anything BUT work related issues.
We respect our people and it shows in our numbers. Our average tenure is over nine years, and that number dips just slightly if you include part time and interns. We just had a few retirements as that average was as high as 14 years not that long ago.
We also respect our people by paying them what they are worth. Our annual increases have been well above the regional average for over 10 years now. When inflation is high, raises have to be high. How else can they continue to grow and prosper?
When you bring your injection molding needs to PlastiCert, you are not just adding a supplier. You are securing your own future and that of our people. Our coworkers are not just coworkers, they refer to our collective as family.
