Making the move
The new year is starting out pretty whiz bang. On top of the largest revenue backlog we have ever had, we have added two new customers already in January.
There is a lot of talk about reshoring, and we have seen some of that, but these additions were more about rightsizing. We gained three new customers last year also, and a number of them found us needing a molder that is better geared for low and mid-volume production. Meaning parts that do not need to run continuously.
You may want to align with a molder that appears more capable either by size, or their high volumes, or both, but strengths typically cater to that volume. Where you may only want thousands of parts a month, they may make six months or even a year’s worth of your product at once and then ship from stock. While there may, (and I emphasize MAY), be some cost advantage to that idea, it robs you of your flexibility and may even cost you if you need to make changes.
Working with a molder that does small and medium volume as a business model aligns yourself with a supplier that is directly meeting your needs and has the skill set and technology to maximize your type of components and sub-assemblies. Even if you need material selection help, component design input, or services like overmolding, insert molding, in-mold decorating, value add assembly, ultrasonic welding, PlastiCert has the capability to service you AND provide the quantities of parts YOU want when YOU want them.
A number of our new customers found us after their former molder told them to seek a new source. Their business did not align with their high-volume business model. If, at some point in your relationship, your molder has told you will have to sit on inventory or your parts will not deliver on time due to other commitments, you may be getting that same call very soon.
Beat them to the punch and find a new source on YOUR time schedule. Search for and align yourself with a molder that makes parts the way you consume them. Providing the technologies and service that you require. A molder that will take your call and listen to your needs and requirements.
Uncomfortable with the high-volume molder you have been using? Give PlastiCert a call. We make parts in lots as small as 50, we can help you design the part that meets your needs, we can design a mold that fits YOUR part’s requirements and volume. We are a Plastics Technology TOP SHOP two years running and looking to help you shore up your molding needs so you can focus on other issues.
