Never Look Back – bad advice indeed!
When I Google that idiom Never Look Back, I see numerous books have carried that title. There are, posters, t-shirts, even a red wine carries the name Never Look Back.
I get the whole focus on the future, onward and upward, do not lose sight of your goals, mentality.
I also think it is important to know and remember your past. Recognize what got you to where you are, and in many cases, remember who you are. It just may be possible that in this fast-moving world, you may have already gone astray, misdirected.
The week each year, we honor our founder, Howard Ystebow. He was an electrical engineer that had great mechanical aptitude but more importantly, business sense. Word was, Howard could walk onto the production floor and tell if the company was making money or not just by the sound he heard the equipment making on the floor. Business wise he had a loyal customer base, appreciative that he built molds and made parts based on what their needs were, regardless of impact to his production floor. So, each year we buy Bloedow’s pastries, and I post a notice of Howard’s birthday with his bio. To remind the tenured coworkers and indoctrinate the new ones. Looking back to remind or educate everyone that PlastiCert, like many companies, has been evolving over the years. Yet, at the same time, PlastiCert has been true to Howard and his principles. Providing highly technical mold and injection molding services to OEMs with a commitment to be their molding expert and help them succeed.
We always remember, who we are. (Where have you heard this before?)
Ironically, many philosophers and historians profess “those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.” In our case, we should be so lucky. Thanks to Howard, we are here, and we are successful.
