PlastiCert owner participates in career readiness panel at local high school
Lewiston, MN February 15, 2017 – PlastiCert, a 35 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services saw its President and Owner Craig Porter participate in a career readiness panel at Lewiston Altura High School.
Attended by the Middle School’s 8th Graders, the panel was made up of numerous career options from manufacturing, to farming, sales, banking, teaching, special needs education, military and veterinary sciences.
After introducing themselves, their educational background, and current employment each panel member chose to answer a question from a list of pre-submitted questions from the students. Porter chose to comment on the question, “How many interviews did you have to go through before you were offered a job?” After explaining that over his career he had participated in many interviews, some successful and some not, he chose to emphasize that the job interview is a two way street. While the employer is evaluating you and your suitability for the position, they should be “interviewing” the employer. Making sure that the job is what they thought it was, who would they be taking direction from, does the employer exhibit traits and values that speak to them and would they like to work there.
“I felt it was important to convey that they take responsibility for their work history and be looking forward, planning how their career might go”, commented Porter. “One of the most interesting things to come out of the panel was the commonality of skills and strengths that were recommended. Problem solving skills and communication skills were a universal talking point regardless of whether you were in consumer, commercial, ag, education and even the military. Those and providing value to your employer were all common responses.”
