PlastiCert participates in Consortium Meeting on Identifying Workforce Education Needs
Lewiston, MN December 17, 2012 – PlastiCert, a 31 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, attends quarterly meeting of the Winona Area Composites Consortium.
PlastiCert President and Owner Craig Porter, along with Director of Customer Advancement Ben Ninas were in attendance at the quarterly meeting of the Winona Area Composites Consortium. The main topic of the meeting was Identifying Workforce Education Needs. Along with representatives from other consortium members, an open discussion was held with faculty and staff from area secondary institutions on both sides of the Mississippi River. “We had an invigorating discussion regarding the state of the workforce and goals for future hiring”, remarked Porter. Contributing to the discussion were faculty and admin from Western Technical College, Southeast Technical College, Winona State University and UW-Stout. Winona State University gave an update on their implementation of a Physical Science Masters program. Consortium members talked about how they were currently addressing specialized processing and technical skill training needs and how the academic community could help to replace or augment their internal programs. “Secondary education is serving industry fairly well”, Ninas commented. “That being said, we were all in agreement that for future industry needs, our push/exposure has to be driven downward, into the K-12 education system. Kids need to be thinking about technology and industry even before they get to high school.”
