PlastiCert participates on WSU Entrepreneurship Course Judging Panel.
Lewiston, MN May 3, 2018 – PlastiCert, a 37 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services reports it’s President & Owner was at Winona State University assisting its Business Department.
PlastiCert President & Owner Craig Porter received and accepted an invitation to participate on a panel judging business proposals made by student teams in the Spring Semester Entrepreneurship Class. The day’s events followed a Shark Tank TM format where the teams pitched their product or service business offering to a panel of business professionals. They provided an assessment of the business and asked for an investment in exchange for a return. The business ideas presented covered the range of products in consumer and building markets, phone apps and consulting services.
The panelists received Executive Summaries for each group’s project a few days prior to convening. The event took place in the Business Engagement Center located on the main floor of Somsen Hall on the WSU campus. There were 6 student groups and each group was allocated one table for a trade show style display to showcase their prototype or company mockup. The panelists were allowed to browse the displays, become acquainted with their business idea and ask questions. Then, after panelists took their seats, each group was provided a maximum of 10 minutes to pitch their idea followed with a question period. Each group could request capital either as an equity investment or as debt. After all presentations were done, panelists retired to a board room where they assessed the pitches and filled out an investment score card. Each panelist had access to a large virtual pool of capital so there was no maximum. However, the decision of the level of investment was based on the business concept and as if the money was their own. Panelists indicated on the score card the amount of money they would realistically invest in the group’s business concept, their assessment of the pitch, and any comments they wished to pass along to the group.
