PlastiCert President and Owner Craig Porter returns from swimming and diving championships.
Lewiston, MN November 21, 2013 – PlastiCert, a 32 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, celebrates amateur athleticism, and encourages staff to embrace that part of our mission statement that calls for “a recognized responsibility to the community around us”.
Craig W. Porter, PlastiCert’s President and Owner returned from a week off where he was officiating stroke and turn at championship level swimming & diving in two separate contests.
First from November 14 – 16 he was a deck official at the USA Swimming/Arena Grand Prix held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. A six meet series held around the US, the competition features age group youth from around the country but also past Olympic and current National Team members from the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada and others. “We saw some amazing swimming from established veterans like Connor Dwyer, Arkady Vyatchanin, Megan Romano, Caitlin Leverenz, Cesar Cielo and others. The swimming was very intense,” commented Porter. “Friday night we saw Dwyer and Vyatchanin go head-to-head in the 500 Yard Freestyle matching each other stroke for stroke. Dwyer’s time of 4:10.60 (Vyatchanin swam 4:10.69) is the ninth fastest 500 Freestyle on record. That same night we saw Brazilian Cesar Cielo swim the 50 Freestyle in 18.83 seconds, the 3rd fastest time this year in the United States.
After a one-day break, Porter returned to the University of MN to participate in officiating 3 days at the 2013 Minnesota State High School Girl’s Swimming & Diving Championships. “Being a part of high school and collegiate diving was influential in becoming who I am,” remarked Porter. “I enjoy giving back to the sport that helped me, as well as take the opportunity to remove myself from the plant. Officiating at this level helps to re-energize me. The competition is so stimulating and definitely takes my mind off the trappings of the plant and office. When I return to the plant, I feel reinvigorated and ready to tackle revisiting the medium and long term planning.” The high school championships saw 4 new state records, 3 of which were all time state records (the fastest considering both AA and A class high schools). In addition, 29 swimmers and relays swam automatic All-American qualifying times.
In March of 2014, Porter will return to the U of MN for the Boy’s High School Swim & Dive Championships. The Minnesota State High School League has chosen him to be the Official Starter for the Class AA (larger school) portion of the championships.
