PlastiCert receives visit from newly inaugurated Winona State University President Dr. Scott R. Olson
Lewiston, MN June 12, 2013 – PlastiCert, a 32 year veteran of innovative and quality plastic injection molding design and manufacturing services, recently received Winona State University President Scott Olson for a discussion and plant tour.
Dr. Scott R. Olson was appointed the 15th president of Winona State University (WSU) in May of 2012 and inaugurated on April 14, 2013. After his appointment, he was provided more in-depth information on the Composites Materials Engineering (CME) Major offered at WSU. He also embraced the CME Industry Advisory Board’s desire for him to get out into the business community and learn about the symbiotic relationship between the university and the area’s plastics/composites industry.
PlastiCert was President Olson’s second stop in his plans to visit and get to know the regional industry players. Accompanied by CME Department Chair Dr. Beckry Abdel-Magid, their goal was to understand how Winona State University can fit into the composite industry’s business goals and planning. “We’re here to find out what needs we are addressing and what more we could do to fit into and support if possible, your business plans,” explained Olson. Sitting with PlastiCert President & Owner Craig Porter and Director of Customer Advancement Benjamin Ninas, (A Winona State CME graduate), they discussed areas of interaction in the past, as well as PlastiCert’s visions, not only for itself, but also for the regional business cluster. “We are a recognized cluster of composites and plastics companies here in SE MN/Western WI,” commented Porter. “We would embrace the idea of WSU performing more research and development activities and think it would be a huge draw for other companies to join us here in the region. With increased industry presence in the area comes better access to suppliers and services which then makes us more efficient and a leaner operation”.
PlastiCert was founded in 1981 and is a privately held corporation with headquarters and manufacturing in Lewiston Minnesota.
