Young at heart, and work

December saw many special observances, but we celebrated one that is much rarer here at PlastiCert, a retirement. Terry, one of our mold design toolmakers decided to hang up his apron, calipers and height stand. He’ll be spending more time checking out the view from his porch. Fortunately, it was a planned event. We had long since found a very capable, (and youthful) replacement for Terry. They have been working alongside each other for many months.

I remark this event as rare, because in my 15 years at PlastiCert, this is only the second retirement we have witnessed here. The first just a few years ago, was a very valuable, yet off-site coworker. So while celebrated, that one did not have the ballyhoo we saw for Terry.

Come to think of it, these two retirements, are the only two retirements I myself have seen firsthand. Considering I have worked at a dozen or so companies, spanning over 40 years of professional employment, that says something.

I guess that is a testament as to the vitality of the high tech companies I have chosen to work at. Typically early stage or even start-up firms, they featured eager engineers looking to get in on something significant, and managers looking to covert paper stock shares for gold.  A few did, a few didn’t, and a few went down in flames. Such an environment doesn’t attract the weak of heart or long in tooth (career wise) looking to retire soon.

In this case, it certainly says something about the vitality of PlastiCert. Being an almost 40 year old company, we are far from a start-up or early stage. Yet we work with cutting edge OEMS and even a few start-ups that provide that adrenalin charge of doing something new. So our staff reflects that new company aura, with the benefit of years and years of experience.

It appears that PlastiCert’s next retirement may be a ways off. (It may in fact might be my own). Rest assured, that while rare, such events are managed and prepared for, (especially concerning my own). We have equally capable and energetic individuals in the wings looking to make sure the injection molding aspect of your new product launch will go smoothly.

That’s our promise to you, Molding Your Future!!
