In need of a Beethoven fix, what are you doing this July?
This week ticket packages went on sale for the eighth edition of the Minnesota Beethoven Festival, located here in Winona, Minnesota. Scheduled for June 29 through July 29, Orchestras, Choirs, Quintets, and Soloists will be performing at venues all around Winona.
Last year thousands of guests, (including myself) attended performances; over 50% of attendees were from outside the Winona area. That speaks to the quality of the world class performers that come to perform at the Minnesota Beethoven Festival. They come to Winona, literally from Coast to Coast, The Boston Brass (a world-renowned quintet) to Ms. Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg a violinist and the music director of the San Francisco-based New Century Chamber Orchestra. From across the ocean, Sir James Galway a Belfast born flautist now living in Switzerland has performed for such dignitaries as Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, President Clinton, President George W. Bush, President George H.W. Bush, President Mary McAleese, President Michael D. Higgins, Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny, Prince Charles, HRH The Princess Royal, The Empress of Japan, The Queen of Norway, Princess Diana, TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex, TRH The Duke and Duchess of Kent, and most recently President Shimon Peres. He has shared the stage with an amazing array of entertainers including Stevie Wonder, Henry Mancini, John Denver, Elton John, the Chieftains, Ray Charles, Joni Mitchell, Jessye Norman, Cleo Laine and Andrea Bocelli. He performed with Pink Floyd in their memorable concert at the Berlin Wall, was part of the Nobel Peace concert in Norway and performed at the G Seven summit hosted by Queen Elizabeth II in Buckingham Palace. The Festival concludes with a performance by the Grammy winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra from New York.
Therefore, as you can see, this is a musical event not to be missed. Ticket packages went on sale this week and it is the best way to assure that you will be able to see these talented musicians without traveling extensively! If you wait until individual performances go on sale you might just be edged out, they sell fast!!
